The Troy Trojans (13-4) lost their second contest in the past three games with an 11-1 loss to the Jacksonville State Gamecocks (11-6) on the road Wednesday.

Troy struggled at the plate all game. While the Trojans were walked or hit by a pitch a total of 10 times, Troy managed just one hit as a team. It’s the first time Troy Baseball has earned just one hit in a game since 2011.

“We had ten freebies – we just couldn’t get the hit,” Troy Coach Skylar Meade said. “The box score speaks to that obviously, having one hit. We were disciplined to the strike zone, which is obviously a part of our DNA. We just couldn’t get our barrel on time to get that impactful hit tonight.”

Sean Darnell earned Troy’s lone hit of the day, while Jimmy Janicki scored the only run. For Jacksonville State, Drew Collins went 3-for-4 with an RBI, two doubles and two runs. Grayson Ashe also hit a home run.

Defensively, Troy had two fielding errors as a team, while Jacksonville State had no errors. Troy threw five different pitchers at the Gamecocks. Brock Tapper pitched three and 2/3 innings and fanned three batters, while giving up four hits and one earned run. James Wilson pitched four and 2/3 innings for Jax State with six strikeouts along with giving up one hit and one earned run. Blake Cavill had nine putouts and one assist on defense for Troy.

Troy will look to rebound this weekend as Sun Belt Conference play begins on the road. The Trojans will play a three-game series against Louisiana March 14-16. Game one begins at 6 p.m. on March 14, streaming on ESPN+.
