Local athletes shine at track meets

The Charles Henderson, Pike County and Goshen High School track teams were in action this past weekend. 

Both Charles Henderson and Pike County competed in the Myquell Smith Invitational in Enterprise on March 7. The Charles Henderson girls finished sixth overall, while the boys team earned runner-up behind host Enterprise. 

For Charles Henderson, the 4×100-meter relay girls team took third place. The relay team consisted of Shai’Vonne Grace, Payton Ousley, Jayda Hall and Kamari Stroizer. The 4×400-meter relay team also took fourth. That relay team consisted of Seigaliah Knox, Caylie Copeland, Naima Oliver and Laylah Frazier. Ousley also took third place in the girls 100-meter dash and runner-up in the 200-meter dash. Meanwhile, Kelis Williams earned a fifth place finish in the girls shot put, while Jada Jones come in sixth place. 

On the boys side, the 4×100-meter relay team took third place, consisting of Kourtni Christian, Terrance Thomas, Briece Baker and Jamal Downing. The 4×800-meter relay team of Kaden Simmons, Caleb Richardson, Demond Williams and Tre Griffin earned a fourth place finish. The boys 4×400-meter relay also took third place. That team consisted of Downing, Baker, Joshua Daniels and Khalil Gray. 

Also, Zach Evans earned the gold in the 110-meter hurdles, while teammate Donovan McClain took the silver. Thomas also claimed a silver in the 100-meter dash, while Evans claimed second in the boys 300-meter hurdles. Kam Christian earned third in the boys long jump, while he took second in the high jump. Thomas finished second in the 200-meter run, while Downing came in fifth. Bubba Williams claimed fifth in the shot put, while his twin brother Nemo Williams took the gold in the javelin toss. 

The Pike County girls finished eighth overall, while the boys came in fourth. The girls team, earned a sixth place finish in the 4×400-meter relay. Kaylin Jackson also took fourth in the 100-meter dash, while Laniya Wheeler earned ninth in the 100-meter dash and fifth in the 200-meter dash. D’Yana Knox also claimed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles. 

Kaidyn Lee claimed fifth in the long jump, Monday Davenport finished sixth in the long jump and Brooklyn Jones earned a 10th place finish in the shot put.

On the boys side, Braylin Jackson took the bronze in the 100-meter dash, while Jaylyn Freeman earned sixth in the 110-meter hurdles. Antavious Redman also claimed seventh in the 110-meter hurdles, 10th in the 300-meter hurdles and seventh in the high jump. 

The 4×100-meter relay team finished fourth and the 4×800-meter relay team took fifth. Khalil Foster captured silver in the high jump, long jump and triple jump, while Logan Lucy finished fourth in the high jump. 

Goshen traveled to Straughn to compete in a track meet on March 7, as well. On the girls side, Ke’Andra Cummings earned a sixth place finish in the 100-meter dash, ninth in the 200-meter dash, fifth in the 100-meter hurdles and eighth in the long jump. 

On the boys side, Szemerick Andrews finished third in the 100-meter dash, while Jayden McNabb finished seventh and also took 10th place in the 200-meter dash. Nehemiah Harris finished 10th in the 400-meter dash, while Brennan Brown earned a bronze finish in the 3200-meter run. 

Jerbauri Williams claimed bronze in the 110-meter hurdles and silver in the 300-meter hurdles. George Crawley also finished fourth in the discus throw. The 4×100-meter relay team claimed third place overall.
