Lady Rebels claim runner-up finish in weekend softball tournament

The Zion Chapel Lady Rebels (6-7) finished as the runner-up in the Addyson Martin Memorial Softball Tournament in Geneva this weekend.
ZCHS opened up tournament play with a 7-1 loss to Long on March 7. Kaylee Hodge scored the lone Lady Reb run, while Sydney Boothe hit an RBI double. Riley Bannin pitched three and 2/3 innings with four strikeouts, while giving up five hits and four earned runs. Elida Velazquez and Landry Hataway earned three putouts each.
Zion Chapel closed out the first day of tournament action with a 9-7 loss to Headland. Riley Bannin went 3-for-3 at the plate with a home run, one double, three RBIs and two runs. Velazquez, Emily Rhodes, Haley Sessions and Hataway scored one run each. Boothe pitched three innings and struck out one batter along with giving up two hits and three earned runs. Hataway earned four putouts and one assist with no errors on defense.
On March 8, the Lady Rebels opened the elimination round with a 4-3 win over Cottonwood. Bannin hit a walk-off RBI single that drove Hodge in for the winning run. Aubrey Bassett hit an RBI double with a run, while Shea Wambles and Cailyn Sanders scored one run each.
Boothe pitched three innings and fanned six batters, while giving up no hits or earned runs. Bannin also pitched two innings and gave up no hits or earned runs with three strikeouts. Velazquez earned seven putouts with no errors.
Next, Zion Chapel topped Dale County by a score of 6-3. Boothe went 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and two runs. Bannin also hit a double, earned three RBIs and scored one run. Wambles also hit a double, while Hataway and Hodge scored one run. Bannin spent three innings in the circle and struck out seven batters along with giving up two hits and no earned runs. KB Holley tallied seven putouts with no errors.
In the semifinals, Zion Chapel topped Headland by a score of 3-2, avenging an earlier loss to the Lady Rams in the tournament. Boothe went 2-for-3 with a double, while Wambles hit a double. Hagen Sessions, Hataway and Sanders scored one run each. Boothe pitched four innings and fanned one batter along with giving up six hits and two earned runs. Wambles totaled three putouts and one assist with no fielding errors.
In the championship game, Zion Chapel lost 5-0 to Long. Emily Rhodes, Hodge, Bannin and Wambles earned one hit each. Boothe pitched two and 1/3 innings and struck out four batters along with giving up five hits and three earned runs. Bannin gave up three hits and no earned runs in one and 2/3 innings of work in the circle. Holley earned five putouts with no errors.
