Troy Softball comes up short against No. 17 Auburn

The Troy Trojans (12-9) dropped their midweek clash with the No. 17 ranked Auburn Tigers (20-1) by a score of 12-2 on the road on March 5.
Troy lost despite putting the first runs on the scoreboard after Brantley junior Kayden Dunn blasted a two-run home run in the second inning to put the Trojans up 2-0. Troy held on to that lead until Auburn exploded to score 12 runs in the fourth inning. Auburn hit a three-run homer in the fourth along with three consecutive two-run dingers.
Taylor McKinney led Troy at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a run, while Dunn went 1-for-2 with a homer, two RBIs and one run. Alyssa Faircloth pitched three and 1/3 innings and struck out nine batters, while giving up three hits and four earned runs.
For Auburn, Kylie Brockman went 2-for-3 with two home runs, five RBIs and two runs. Nelia Peralta and KK McCray each hit a homer, as well. Haley Rainey pitched three innings and struck out one batter, while giving up three hits and two earned runs.
Troy returns home this weekend for a series against UMass March 7-9, kicking things off at 3 p.m. on Friday.
