The Rev. Willie Moultry of Brundidge had it in his heart to find a way to take Jesus outside the church into the streets. It was his belief that God is in all places and works in many ways to bring His people together in love and harmony.

Moultry was the guest speaker at the Wednesday meeting of the Brundidge Rotary Club. He shared his desire to bring people of all ages, of different colors, with different beliefs or without any beliefs together to share and know the love of God and accept it in their hearts and minds and share it with others.

His desire was to provide opportunities for sharing Gods’ love and mercy with all His children and at a place where God was everywhere, not just inside the church.

Out of the desire of others, who believed as Moultry, a vision for the community to came together. And, the realization of that vision was the March for Jesus, from Galloway Park on the north side of Brundidge to Pike County High School on the south side.

Most walked the distance but others rode. One man shouldered the cross for Jesus, who was in the hearts of those who Walked for Jesus.

“Although having prayer on a school campus was not allowed, we prayed,” Moultry said. “We asked the Lord to remove all barriers and bring us together in Christian love. For many, it was a time of crying and repentance.”

Many “miracles” came out of the March for Jesus, homes were found for those in need, hearts were healed and broken families were brought together.

The March for Jesus is now a 20 -year annual event in Brundidge. The march continues to follow a downtown route. People continue to line the streets, quietly, almost prayerfully.

“Jesus is in our churches and also on the streets,” Moultry said. “His presence has removed barriers. Our vision for our community has come together. Jesus is in the church and He is in our streets and we are blessed.”
