High School Softball: Local teams in action

The Ariton, Charles Henderson, Goshen, Pike County and Pike Liberal Arts softball teams have all been in action so far this week.
The Ariton Lady Purple Cats (8-6) dropped a 12-1 loss to Kinston on March 3. Kinston held a slim 2-1 lead going into the fifth inning but the Lady Dawgs scored 10 runs in the next three innings to pick up the win.
Brianna Achua scored Ariton’s lone run. Beth Dixon pitched seven innings and struck out five batters, while giving up 17 hits and nine earned runs. For Kinston, Camdyn Norris hit a home run, while Allyx Williamson went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs. Lauren Norris pitched seven innings and fanned 12 batters, while giving up four hits and no earned runs.
Ariton travels to Luverne on March 11 at 5:30 p.m.
The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans (3-8) dropped a tough 13-10 loss to Greenville on March 3. Janazia Cantlow went 4-for-5 at the plate for CHHS with two triples and four runs, while Calleigh Compton went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs and two stolen bases. Cantlow also pitched five innings and struck out four batters, while giving up five hits and six earned runs. Keirstin Gamble tallied six putouts, two assists and one double play on defense.
Charles Henderson plays Prattville-Christian and Brewbaker Tech in a doubleheader on Friday.
The Pike County Lady Bulldogs (1-11) dropped a heartbreaker to Eufaula by a score of 7-6 on March 3. PCHS trailed 7-2 going into the sixth but rallied to score four runs in the sixth to cut the lead to 7-5. Pike County then scored one more run in the seventh but couldn’t draw any closer.
Hailey Griffin, Taylor Trawick, Abigail Griffin, Leah Dixon, Kailia Beacham and Morgan Gardner scored one run each. Trawick also hit a double and Hailey Griffin stole six bases. Kylan Wilkerson pitched six innings and struck out five batters, while giving up eight hits and one earned run. Gardner tallied six putouts on defense.
Pike County travels to Opp on March 6 at 4:30 p.m.
The Pike Lib Lady Patriots (2-6) lost to Kinston by a score of 9-2 on March 4. Camryn Brown went 2-for-4 at the plate for PLAS with one double, one triple, two stolen bases and two runs. Alissa Barron also went 2-for-3 at the plate. Yaley McLendon pitched all seven innings and struck out a pair of batters along with giving up 12 hits and four earned runs.
For Kinston, Maddie Williamson went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, an RBI and three runs. Lilli Sumblin pitched all seven innings and struck out eight batters, while giving up seven hits and two earned runs.
Pike Lib hosts Goshen on March 6 at 6 p.m.
The Goshen Lady Eagles also lost 17-0 to Luverne on Tuesday.
