Pike Lib falls to Lee-Scott in Jonah McWaters Championship

The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots fell to Lee-Scott Academy on Saturday by a score of 6-5 in the championship round of the 2025 Jonah McWaters Softball Tournament. 

Pike Lib started the weekend off with an 8-2 loss to Lee-Scott during pool play on Feb. 28. Mary Holland Stephens went 1-for-2 at the plate for Pike in the loss with a double and an RBI, while Haylie Brown and Alissa Barron scored one run each. 

Next, PLAS closed out pool play with a 4-3 win over Brantley later in the day. In the top of the fifth inning, Pike held on to a 4-3 lead. PLAS pitcher Yaley McLendon entered the game as relief and immediately gave up a single that loaded the bases. McLendon then battled through a full-count, three balls and two strikes, to strikeout the final batter and secure the win. 

Barron went 2-for-2 at the plate with a triple, one RBI and one run, while Haylie Brown went 1-for-2 with a double, one RBI and a run. Camryn Brown and Sarah Strickland scored one run each. Stephens pitched three and 2/3 innings and struck out two batters, while giving up five hits and one earned run. McLendon pitched 1/3 of an inning and fanned one batter, while giving up one hit and no runs.

In the semifinals, Pike earned a resounding 9-2 win over Brantley on March 1. Barron scored two runs and earned a home run, while Allie Booth hit a double and scored one run. CK Smith went 2-for-3 with two runs, while both Haylie Brown and Camryn Brown scored two runs each. Barron pitched four innings and struck out three batters, while giving up six hits and two earned runs. 

In the championship game, the two sides were tied 5-5 going into the bottom of the seventh inning when a based loaded walk gave Lee-Scott the walk-off win. Strickland went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one run, while CK Smith scored two runs for Pike. Stephens pitched six innings and struck out four batters, while giving up 11 hits and four earned runs. McLendon pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up no hits and one earned run.
