Ariton wins silver bracket in CHHS Trojan Classic

- Ariton won the silver bracket at the CHHS Trojan Classic.
The Ariton Lady Purple Cats finished as the silver bracket champion in the Charles Henderson Lady Trojan Softball Classic in Troy this weekend.
Charles Henderson High School hosted the tournament that also featured Ariton, Pike County, Slocomb, Holtville, Geneva, Marbury, Houston Academy, Kinston, Geneva, Pike Road and GW Long.
Artion started the tournament off with a 13-1 loss to Houston Academy on Feb. 28 in pool play. Makinlyn Munn scored the lone Lady Cat run, while Beth Dixon pitched two innings and fanned one batter along with giving up seven hits and three earned runs. Lizzy Faircloth also gave up four hits and two earned runs with one strikeout in one inning pitched.
Ariton finished up pool play with a 3-0 loss to Geneva. Beth Dixon and Munn both went 2-for-3 at the plate but the Lady Cats were unable to score a run. Faircloth also went 2-for-3 at the plate and pitched four innings, giving up four hits and one earned run.
Also in pool play, host Charles Henderson earned a 15-1 win over WS Neal on Feb. 28. Calleigh Compton went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, one double, four RBIs and one run, Allaynah Vaznaian went 2-for-3 with two doubles, five RBIs and two runs. Janazia Cantlow went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs. Jada Jones also scored two runs and stole two bases, while Ava Stone scored two runs. Katy Lynn Lee pitched three innings and gave up three hits and one earned run.
Charles Henderson followed that up with a 6-5 loss to Slocomb. Aderian Greenwood, Compton, and Keirstin Gamble each hit a home run in the loss. Jada Jones earned a triple and one run. Camille Lewis pitched four innings and gave up four hits and four earned runs with one strikeout. Lee earned six putouts on defense.
The Pike County Lady Bulldogs lost 7-6 to Oak Grove in pool play on Feb. 28. Abigail Griffin led PCHS at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a run, while Leah Dixon and Kailia Beacham earned a double each. Leah Dixon pitched four innings and struck out two batters, while Abigail Griffin earned four putouts and two assists on defense.
Pike County followed that up with a 17-0 los to Houston Academy. Kylan Wilkerson went 2-for-2 at the plate for PCHS, while Taylor Trawick struck out two batters in four innings pitched. Abigail Griffin earned three putouts on defense.
Pike County also lost 7-0 to WS Neal. Paloma Munoz went 3-for-3 at the plate, while Hailey Griffin went 2-for-3. Wilkerson pitched five innings and struck out two batters, while Briana Shaffer earned 10 putouts.
Pike County, Charles Henderson and Ariton all played in the silver bracket on March 1. Ariton beat Carroll by a score of 8-4. Beth Dixon went 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs, while Munn went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs. Molly Snell also hit a triple and scored two runs. Beth Dixon pitched four innings and struck out seven batters, while giving up six hits and four earned runs.
Pike County was eliminated from the tournament with a 2-1 loss to Ariton. Macileigh Bragg went 2-for-3 at the plate for Ariton with one run, while Brianna Achua went 2-for-2 and Munn scored one run. Lizzy Faircloth pitched five innings and struck out one batter, while giving up two hits and one earned run.
For Pike County, Arianna Straw went 1-for-2 with a double and a run. Hailey Griffin also went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Leah Dixon pitched four and 1/3 innings and struck out two batters, while giving up six hits and one earned run. Munoz earned four putouts, one assist and a double play.
Charles Henderson walloped Carroll by a score of 12-2 on March 1. Jada Jones went 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple, three RBIs and two runs, while Cantlow went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. Lee pitched three innings and struck out two batters along with giving up four hits and two earned runs. Camille Lewis earned four putouts on defense.
Next, Ariton bested Charles Henderson by a score of 4-1. Munn, Bragg, Achua and Brynlee Peters scored one run each. Beth Dixon earned three strikeouts and gave up one hit and zero earned runs in four innings pitched.
For Charles Henderson, Jada Jones went 1-for-1 with a run. Calleigh Compton pitched two innings and fanned two batters, while giving up two hits and one earned run. Lewis pitched two innings and struck out a pair of batters along with giving up two hits and one earned run. Lee earned three putouts and one assist.
Ariton closed out the tournament with a 9-3 win over Oak Grove to win the silver bracket championship. Madolyn Hudson went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run, while Achua hit a double. Beth Dixon, Faircloth and Bragg scored two runs each. Faircloth pitched four innings and struck out two batters along with giving up seven hits and one earned run.
Slocomb finished the tournament undefeated to win the gold bracket championship.
