On Saturday, the clock was ticking steadily toward the opening of the 2025 Biennial Quilt Show at the Pioneer Museum of Alabama at 10 a.m. today, March 1.

Barbara Tatom, museum director, said this year’s quilt show is expected to be one of the largest, if not the largest in recent years.

“We are working continually today to get all of the quilts hung and tagged so we haven’t had much time to look at the quilts individually,” Tatom said. “We know that we have a good selection of heritage quilts and a variety of both beautifully hand and machine-stitched stitched quilts. We have a large number of quilts that have been handed down through the generations and some quilts hat have been recently completed.”

The Pike Pioneer Museum of Alabama has several quilts that date back to the 1800s and those quilts may also be viewed.”

Tatom said, about half of the quilts are heritage and half are hand sewn quilt and both feature many different patterns, from Budding Flowers to Ropin’ and Ridin’ and from Flying Geese to Sunbonnet Sue. The most popular hand sewn quilt pattern id the Log Cabin.

The 2025 Bicentennial Quilt Show is for those who are quilters, those who are interested just in the history of the art, and those who just like interesting patterns and pretty things.

The 2025 Biennial Quilt Show will run through March 29. The museum is open Thursday through Saturday.

The museum’s quilt show will run through March 29. Admission to the museum includes the 2025 Biennial Quilt Show.
