Pike Lib, Charles Henderson open Jonah McWaters Tournament with wins

Both the Pike Liberal Arts Patriots and Charles Henderson Trojans opened the 2025 Jonah McWaters Baseball Tournament on the campus of Pike Liberal Arts School in Troy with wins on Thursday. 

Charles Henderson throttled Park Crossing by a score of 11-3. Owen Pugh led CHHS at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and one run, while Ben Cochran scored three runs. Wes Templin earned a double and Jam Burney stole two bases. 

Blake Lowery pitched two innings and struck out four batters, while giving up three hits and two earned runs. Will Watkins gave up no hits or runs and also struck out three batters in two innings on the mound. Wilson Jones earned seven putouts and two assists on defense. 

Pike Lib closed out the opening day with a resounding 9-2 win over Geneva. Jack Baggett went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs, while Garrett Whitaker went 2-for-2 with a run and Luke Barron earned two walks with one triple, two RBIs and two runs. Pruitt Vaughan and Kade Brookins scored two runs each.

Brookins also pitched 1 1/3 innings and struck out three batters, while giving up no hits or earned runs runs. Charlie Fountain also pitched three innings and struck out five batters, while giving up no hits or runs. 

Charles Henderson plays Opelika in the tournament at 11 a.m. today, while Pike Lib plays Dothan at 6:30 p.m. Opelika will also play Park Crossing at 1:30 p.m. and Geneva faces Dothan at 4 p.m. The elimination round begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 1. All games are played at Butch Austin Field on the campus of Pike Liberal Arts School.
