The Charles Henderson Trojans dropped a close game with Class 7A’s Opelika by a score of 3-2 on Friday in day two of the Jonah McWaters Baseball Tournament at Pike Liberal Arts School.
Charles Henderson trailed 3-1 going into the sixth inning but Wes Templin belted a solo home run that bought the Trojans within one run in the top of the sixth. Unfortunately, time ran out on CHHS before they had a chance to try and tie things up. Each game in the Jonah McWaters Tournament has a two-hour time limit.
Templin went 1-for-2 at the plate with a homer, one RBI and one run. Chase Vaznaian scored the other CHHS run. Templin also pitched five innings and struck out a pair of batters, while giving up three hits and two earned runs. Clay Johnson earned seven putouts, one assist and one double play on defense with no errors.
Pike Lib plays Dothan at 6:30 p.m. later today, while Opelika will also play Park Crossing at 1:30 p.m. and Geneva faces Dothan at 4 p.m. The elimination round begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 1. All games are played at Butch Austin Field on the campus of Pike Liberal Arts School.
