For the second time in two days, the No. 20-ranked Troy Trojans (8-1) notched a win as they bested the UAB Blazers (6-2) by a score of 7-4 at home on Wednesday.

Troy was coming off a big win over No. 18 Mississippi State, on the road, the prior day and the Trojans kept the momentum going with some stellar pitching performances. Troy’s five pitchers used on the night gave up a combined nine hits and earned nine strikeouts. Kelly Crumpton earned his first win on the mound for Troy, striking out one batter and giving up one hit and one earned run in one inning pitched. Jacob Roettgen pitched two innings and fanned two batters, while giving up one hit and no runs. Chase Cartron also struck out three batters and gave up three hits and one earned run in two innings of work. Colton Walls, also a member of the Troy Football team, pitched two innings and gave up one hit and no runs.

On the offensive end, former Pike Lib star Cason Eubanks went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run. Those two hits were the first two of his career.

“It feels really good to be out here on the field,” Eubanks said. “It felt really good today to break the ice and get those two hits. Even though I wasn’t getting hits, my confidence was still there, and it didn’t really bother me. I wasn’t worried about results. I was worried about working good at-bats and helping the team.”

The reining Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week Sean Darnell also went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and one run. Brooks Bryan earned a double, three RBIs and one run. Blake Cavill earned eight putouts and a double play on defense. Eubanks also earned one putout, two assists and a double play. This was the second straight game the Troy defense gave up no errors.

Troy’s busy week continues this week with a three-game series against Penn at home. The Trojans play Penn at 4 p.m. on Friday and then 3:33 p.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday.
