At its final meeting of February, the Troy City Council recognized and honored a number of black leaders in the Troy community.
These leaders included volunteers, military veterans, business owners, teachers and many more. The council recognized the leaders with a plaque during the meeting.
“We’re so happy and elated to see all of you here,” Troy Councilwoman Wanda Moultry said. “I hope this will continue in years to come. On behalf of Mayor Jason Reeves and my colleagues on the council, we would like to recognize and honor the contributions and achievements made by some of our city’s black men and women.”
Those honored includes Pastor Henry L. Reynolds, Jannique Baxter-Lee, Jacquelyn Williams-Patterson, Mitchell Sneed, Makelia LaRee Wingard, Brenda DeBose, Pastor Tyrone B. Moultry, Christine Barron, Charlie “Sarge” Dunn, Latasha A. Howard, Gail O. Jones and Dorothy Howard.
“I know most of you that have been here tonight and I really appreciate everything that you do and I applaud you for the work that you do for our community and all of the individuals in our city,” Councilman Max Davis said. “It means so much to everyone.”
Councilwoman Sharon McSwain-Holland also talked about her appreciation for those leaders, as well as her colleagues on the council.
“To be able to actually recognize you all for giving in this community, a lot of times using your own resources, means a lot,” she said. “Some of you care for our children in our schools and some of you are running businesses and entertainment programs that we can relate to as black Americans. I love, love, love my fellow council members in always being willing to support the good in Troy.”
