High School Softball: Pike County, Charles Henderson drop heartbreakers

Both the Charles Henderson Lady Trojans and Pike County Lady Bulldogs suffered heartbreaking defeats in walk-off fashion this week.

On Monday, Pike County lost 6-5 to Autauga Academy. Pike County trailed 4-3 going into the seventh inning and scored two runs in the top of the seventh to take a 5-4 lead. Autauga Academy then scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to secure the win, the final score coming on a walk-off RBI double. 

For Pike County (1-5), Hailey Griffin hit her first home run of the season, while Leah Dixon went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run. Kailia Beacham also went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Dixon pitched six and 1/3 innings and struck out five batters, while giving up 10 hits and five earned runs. Morgan Gardner totaled four putouts on defense. 

The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans (1-5) lost 11-10 to Geneva on Tuesday. The Lady Trojans held a resounding 7-4 lead going into the seventh and added three more runs in the top of the seventh to go up 11-4. Geneva then rallied to score seven runs in the bottom of the seventh, capping it off with a walk-off RBI single for the win. 

Jada Jones had a big day for the Lady Trojans, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple, a home run, five RBIs and two runs. Aderian Greenwood went 2-for-3 with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs. Janazia Cantlow pitched six and 1/3 innings and fanned five batters, while giving up eight hits and eight earned runs. Camille Lewis tallied 12 putouts and one assist on defense. 

The Ariton Lady Purple Cats (4-3) dropped a game 7-4 to Geneva on Feb. 24. Makinlyn Munn went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run, while Beth Dixon stole two bases and scored two runs. Dixon also pitched seven innings and retired six batters, while giving up 13 hits and four earned runs. 

Ariton followed that up with a 12-5 loss to Class 5A Headland on Feb. 25. Dixon went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs in the loss, while Munn went 3-for-5 with a double, one RBI and one run. Lizzy Faircloth pitched seven innings and struck out three batters, while giving up 14 hits and eight earned runs. Dixon also earned five putouts and one assist on defense. 

The Pike Lib Lady Patriots (0-3) lost 11-0 to GW Long on Feb. 25, while the Zion Chapel Lady Rebels (3-3) also lost 9-0 to Class 7A Enterprise.
