- Ginny Hamm spoke to the Troy Rotary Club about her mission work abroad. Pictured are Rotarian Peter Brooks, Troy Rotary Club President Brenda Campbell, Hamm and Troy Rotarian James Smith.
Ginny Hamm talked with the Troy Rotary Club about mission work which has taken her around the world.
Hamm told Rotarians she first became interested in mission work when she was only 13- or 14-years-old. She said she was part of a club called Girls in Action which encouraged young girls to learn more about what was going on in the world. She said the club also did various service projects in the community. She said that was where her interest in service began.
Hamm said her first Christian mission trip was to Russia in 2005, not long after she retired. Since then, she has been part of missions across Africa and the Middle East as well as part of medical mission trips to Ethiopia. She said the primary focus of her mission work is in Egypt and India, to which she has visited 18 times.
Hamm said there are more than 1.45 billion people in India and many of them are starved for Christianity. She said the country also has a large number of Hindu extremists who are opposed to Christian mission work in the country.
“The most powerful thing we can do is to invoke the holy spirit to make a change in people’s lives,” Hamm said.
