Pike County, Goshen compete in track meets

Both the Pike County High School and Goshen High School track and field teams hit the road this weekend for competition against bigger schools.

Pike County traveled to Smiths Station and competed in the Adonica Ferguson/Smiths Station Panther Open on Feb. 22 against other schools like Auburn, Beauregard, Beulah, Central-Phenix City, Dadeville, Glenwood, LaFayette, Lee-Scott, Russell County, Smiths Station and Stanhope Elmore. 

Not only did the Bulldogs have a solid finish, a number of PCHS athletes earned Top 10 finishes. Pike County’s Kaylin Jackson, a defending state champion, earned the silver in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.76, while teammate Laniya Wheeler also finished in fourth place with a time of 12.91. 

D’Yana Knox took seventh in the 100-meter hurdles and sixth in the high jump, while the 4×100-meter really team took third and the 100-meter sprint medley relay team finished in sixth place. 

On the boys side, Braylin Jackson earned a bronze finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.18, while Kamarian Toney finished seventh in the 110-meter hurdles and Khalil Foster took fifth place in both the high jump and long jump. Foster also earned a runner-up finish in the triple jump. The 4×100-meter relay team also finished second and the 100-meter spring medley relay team took third place. 

The Goshen track and field squad traveled to Enterprise on Feb. 21 for the first Enterprise Open of the season. Kei’Andra Cummings grabbed a sixth place finish in the girls 100-meter hurdles, while Jerbauri Williams grabbed the gold in the boys 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.96. George Crawley also finished seventh in the discus throw and sixth in the shot put.
