- Donald Davis will perform Saturday night at the WPA Theater in Brundidge.
“I could have listened all morning to Donald Davis. His stories often left listeners limp with laughter at the same time they struggled with a lump in the throat.”
That’s what the New York Times said about Donald Davis.
And, that’s why those who enjoy storytelling continue to pack every venue where Donald Davis is telling stories.
On Saturday night, March 1, the Dean of Storytelling will take the stage at the We Piddle Theater in Brundidge and, oh, the stories he will tell.
Davis is in great demand so, just how is it that he will be in piddlin’ around in a small town in Alabama on a Saturday night?
The master storyteller was scheduled to be a teller at the Pike Piddlers Storytelling Festival the last full weekend in January 2025. However, an ice storm kept him homebound on an island off the coast of North Carolina.
Regrets would, understandably, have been enough. But not for Davis. He made a way to come back and piddle around just as he has done since 2007.
“Donald Davis was a teller at the Brundidge Historical Society’s first storytelling festival in 2007,” said Lawrence Bowden, past president of the BHS. “He made a slight change in his schedule to he could come to a first storytelling in a town of two thousand. And he has been with us every year since.”
Except COVID.
The Pike Piddlers Storytelling Festival was canceled but, Donald Davis came to Brundidge for one night of storytelling that left the audience “limp with laughter” and also, with a lump in their collective throats
“And that’s want we can expect when Donald Davis comes to the We Piddle Around Theater on Saturday night, March 1,” said Johnny Garrett, BHS president.
