Trojans go 2-2 in USF Softball Tournament

The Troy Trojans (9-6) traveled to Tampa, Fla., this weekend to compete in the South Florida Softball Tournament, finishing 2-2 including a win over a Power 4 school.
The weekend started off rough with a 10-0 shutout loss to the Michigan Wolverines on Feb. 21. Brantley native Kayden Dunn led Troy at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two doubles. Mya Holt pitched two and 2/3 innings, giving up four hits and four earned runs. Dunn also earned six putouts on defense.
For Michigan, Madi Ramey earned a three-run home run, while Ella Stephenson went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Erin Hoehn got the win in the circle, striking out three batters and giving up five hits with no runs in three innings pitched.
Troy rebounded with a 6-2 win over the Big 10’s Wisconsin later on Saturday. Cassidy Boltz went 3-for-3 at the plate for Troy with a double and one run, while Reagan Oney went 3-or-3 with a double, a home run, four RBIs and two runs. Alyssa Faircloth pitched a complete game, striking out 10 batters, while giving up three hits and no earned runs in seven innings. Caiden Olivia earned five putouts, while Sarah Beth Brake tallied eight putouts and two assists.
Troy followed that up with a 6-4 win over Kent State on Sunday. Boltz went 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run, two RBIs and one run, while Oney went 4-for-4 with a run. Taylor McKinney also scored two runs.
Faircloth pitched four and 2/3 innings and fanned three batters, while giving up three hits and three earned runs. Esmee Ames also gave up two hits and one earned run in two and 1/3 innings pitched. McKinney tallied five putouts and two assists on defense.
The Trojans closed out the tournament with a 10-8 loss to host South Florida on Sunday. Dunn went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, two RBIs and one run, while Boltz went 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBIs and two runs. Makaley Boswell also went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and one run.
Holt pitched two innings and gave up four hits and five earned runs. Kate Peters also pitched two and 2/3 innings, striking out one batter and giving up no hits or runs. Oliva totaled seven putouts on defense.
Troy is back in action this weekend for another road tournament, competing in the Florida Softball Tournament on the campus of the University of Florida. Troy plays Western Michigan on Feb. 28 at 9 a.m. before taking on Samford later that day at 2 p.m. The Trojans play Florida A&M at 9.am. on March 1 and then face host Florida later that day at 11:30 a.m. Troy will close out the tournament against Western Michigan at 8 a.m. on March 2.
