- Brundidge Mayor Isabell Boyd and Dr. Cherry Wilcoxon.
Pike County High School celebrated and honored Black History Month on Friday with an assembly at the gymnasium with Dr. Cherry Wilcoxon as the guest speaker.
Wilcoxon is a distinguished leader in financial operation, strategic management and organizational development.
And, she is a Brundidge native having been born at home on 7th Avenue, raised in Tennille and discipline by a “village” of blue collar workers who taught her to work hard, be respectful of and caring for others.
Wilcoxon expressed the importance of Black History Month as a time to learn about the past so that is does not repeat itself and, as a catalyst, to continue to move forward and to ensure that Black history will never be erased.
Black history, Wilcoxon said, must be acknowledged so that it will continue to be a beacon of hope for future generations and the courage to endure in order to build a better Black History for tomorrow and future generations.
