High School Baseball: Pike Lib beats Geneva, Goshen tops Pike County

The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots and Goshen Eagles both earned weekend victories on the baseball diamond.

Goshen earned a 12-4 win over the Pike County Bulldogs on Feb. 21. Grant Taylor had a big day for GHS, both at the plate and on the mound. He went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and one run, while striking out 12 batters and giving up just one hit and no earned runs in six innings pitched. Logan Linton also went 2-for-3 with two runs, while Nehemiah Bedgood earned two stolen bases and three runs. Tyler McLendon also stole two bases and scored three runs, while Mason Adair scored two runs.
Layton Burgans earned two strikeouts, while giving up no hits or runs on the mound. Jack Redmon and Parks Snyder both earned six putouts and one assist each on defense.
For Pike County, Michael Gabel earned the only hit of the day, while Britt Albritton scored two runs and Jakori Green scored one run.
Mark Griffin pitched two innings and fanned a pair of batters, while giving up five hits and six earned runs. Gabel also pitched four innings, striking out seven batters along with giving up four hits and two earned runs.
The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots picked up a pair of wins over Geneva and Holtville. Pike topped Geneva by a score of 5-3 on Feb. 20. Kade Brookins went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one run, while Jackson Bowen went 2-for-4 with a run. Pruitt Vaughan also went 2-for-4 with an RBI, one run and two stolen bases. Luke Barron went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Garrett Whitaker pitched four and 2/3 innings, striking out five batters, while giving up four hits and no earned runs. Cole Garrott also pitched one inning and struck out two batters, while giving up no hits or runs.
Pike followed that up with a 12-2 win over Holtville on Feb. 22. Whitaker hit a solo home run in the win, while Pruitt Vaughan went 3-for-5 at the plate with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs. Garrott scored two runs and Bowen scored four runs.
Brookins pitched five innings and struck out seven batters, while giving up five hits and two earned runs. Garrott also struck out one batter and gave up no hits or runs in two innings pitched.
