The Troy Trojans (7-4) stumbled on Wednesday falling 8-0 in a midweek home matchup with the ACC’s Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (8-3).
Georgia Tech pitcher Sophia Voyles allowed just two hits on the afternoon and earned a shutout in the circle. Taylor McKinney and Caiden Oliva earned the lone hits of the day for Troy. For Georgia Tech, Alyssa Willer went 3-for-3 at the plate with two triples, five RBIs and one run.
Troy threw a total of four pitchers at the Yellow Jackets. Alyssa Faircloth pitched two innings and struck out three batters, while giving up two hits and two earned runs. Savannah Money, Esmee Ames and Mya Holt each pitched one inning. Kayden Dunn earned five putouts on defense for the Trojans.
“Before the game started we talked about wanting to be the team that plays with a chip on their shoulder, and it looked like the opposite tonight,” Troy Coach Eric Newell said. “Georgia Tech came out and took care of business. They had a big four-run first inning and just took us out of our game. It’s not the start we wanted and certainly not the conclusion we wanted.”
Troy will look to rebound on the road this weekend in the USF Tournament on the campus of South Florida in Tampa, Fla. Troy will play Michigan at 10:15 a.m. on Feb. 22, followed by a game against Michigan at 3 p.m. On Feb. 23, Troy will play Ken State at 10:30 a.m. and close out the tournament at 1:05 p.m. against South Florida.
