Brundidge Rotarians learn about RSVP

The Brundidge Rotarians had an opportunity to learning more about the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program available in Pike County at its regular Wednesday meeting at the historic Bass House in downtown Brundidge.
Rotarian Cookie Graham, program host, invited Dr. James Meadows, the local director, and Cam McKinney, the volunteer coordinator for Pike County, to share more about the RSVP program in Pike County and how it benefits senior citizens in different ways.
Meadows, director, said RSVP is a part of the AmeriCorps Senior, a national service program that engages adults ages 55 and older in volunteer opportunities.

McKinney said being a volunteer with RSVP provides opportunities to serve in a variety of way, through schools, day care centers and a variety of non-profit organizations.
RSVP offers flexibility and choice to volunteers and matches personal interests and skills of older American with opportunities to be involved in activities of interest.
McKinney’s special interests is basketball and he uses that interest to build trust and cultivate friendships between himself and the seniors with whom is has opportunities to be a part of their lives.
