Troy City Councilmember Stephanie Baker talked with the Troy Exchange Club about resources the city offers and some current projects and what’s on the city’s wishlist.

Baker said one of the exciting programs being developed is a Citizens Police Academy. Baker said the academy was the idea of new Police Chief Danny Barron. Baker said she was currently participating in the pilot program with the Troy Police Department. She said the pilot program would allow Barron and the TPD to get feedback on the program before offering it to the public in the future.

Baker said she also wanted to remind people about the difference between 911 and 311 calling. She said 911 was strictly for emergency calls, whereas people can call 311 or use the City of Troy’s 311 App to report problems, like potholes, burned out street lights and so forth.

As far as city projects, she said a walking trail at Washington Park was complete and an upcoming project at Knox Street Park was the addition of a walking trail, splash pad and multi-use field area.

She said projects the city was looking into included pickleball courts, a dog par and bicycle trails.

Baker also wanted to remind the public that 2025 will be a municipal election year. Qualifying begins in June and the election will be held in August.
