Troy senior baseball player Shane Lewis was named the Sun Belt Conference’s Player of the Week after hitting three home runs in Troy’s opening weekend.
During the sweep over Bellarmine last weekend, Lewis boasted a .571 batting average with a 2.769 on-base percentage including three homers, one double, five RBIs and six walks. Based off that performance, Lewis is tied for first in the conference in home runs and stands alone in first place in walks.
This is Lewis’ third Player of the Week honor of his career and he was also named the 2023 Sun Belt Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, along with being named All-Sun Belt and All-American in 2023. Lewis also shattered Troy’s single-season home run record that season.
Though Lewis had a comparatively down season in 2024, head coach Skyler Meade was excited about the potential Lewis showed for a rebound season during the fall.
“He did things no one else may ever be able to do here again and he needs to remember that for his confidence, but at the same time we’re not asking him to be the guy,” Meade said during the offseason. “He can do the things that make him look like the guy and I know that may seem like a play on words but that’s key for him. He had the best fall he’s ever had here. We’re not trying to ask him to hit 27 home runs, we’re asking him to be himself and be a good player. The talent he has is as good as anyone that’s ever put a uniform on here.”
Lewis now has 35 career home runs, which ties him for seventh all-time in Troy history with Brian Lipman.
