High School Baseball: Charles Henderson splits doubleheader

The Charles Henderson Trojans (1-3) split a doubleheader with Opp and Rehobeth on Monday, Feb. 18 on the road.
CHHS dropped game one against Opp by a score of 9-2. Wes Templin went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Chase Vaznaian scored one run. Kameron Johnson scored one run and Trenton Bryan stole two bases. Will Watkins pitched two and 2/3 innings and struck out a batter, while giving up three hits and two earned runs. Cole Pugh also struck out one batter and gave up one hit and no earned runs in one and 2/3 innings pitched. Kellen Stewart earned four putouts, two assists and one double play on defense, while Clay Johnson also had four putouts, one assist and a double play.
Next, Charles Henderson won its first game of the season by a score of 7-3 against Rehobeth. Clay Johnson had a big game for CHHS, going 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI, two runs and two stolen bases. He also pitched four innings and mowed down six batters, while giving up four hits and one earned run. Owen Pugh, Cole Pugh, Vaznain, Wilson Jones and Cooper Johnson scored one run each.
Blake Lowery pitched two innings and struck out three batters, while giving up two hits and two earned runs. Kellen Stewart also struck out a batter and gave up no hits or runs in one inning on the mound. Defensively, Stewart earned six putouts, one assist and he caught one runner stealing, while Cooper Johnson earned five putouts
On Monday, the Zion Chapel Rebels (1-2) went 0-2 in a doubleheader against Class 3A TR Miller and Class 5A Headland.
Zion Chapel lost 14-4 to TR Miller. John Foster Hamm led ZCHS at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple, one RBI and two runs, while Weston Watson went 2-for-3 with a run. Brodie Stinson and Joseph LeGear scored one run each. Tyler Bass pitched three and 2/3 innings and struck out four batters, while giving up four hits and one earned run.
Zion Chapel followed that up with a 14-0 loss to Headland. The Rams kept ZCHS hitless and scoreless in the game. Hamm pitched one inning and fanned one batter, while giving up two hits and four earned runs. Trent Elrod pitched one and 1/3 innings and struck out two batters, while Gunner Jacobs struck out two batters and gave up one hit and no runs in one inning on the mound.
The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots (0-2) lost 2-1 to Providence Christian on a walk-off home run. With the score tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Providence’s Jeremiah Dean hit a walk-off homer.
Pruitt Vaughan led Pike at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a run, while Dawson Bradford was the only other Patriot to earn a hit on the day. Braden shirley pitched six innings and struck out three batters, while giving up four hits and one earned run.
