Troy Softball closes out Cardinal Clash with win over ASU

The Troy Trojans (7-3) softball team went 4-1 in the Cardinal Clash this weekend, capping it off with a resounding shutout win over the Alabama State Hornets.
After a 4-2 win over SEMO on Feb. 13, Troy followed up with an 11-6 win over Eastern Illinois on Feb. 14. Sarah Beth Brake led Troy, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and two runs. Cassidy Boltz went 2-for-4 with two runs and Brantley native Kayden Dunn went 2-for-3 with a double and a run.
Mya Holt got the win in the circle, striking out a pair of batters and giving up five hits and three earned runs in three and 2/3 innings pitched. Esmee Ames also pitched two and 1/3 innings, striking out two batters and giving up two hits and two earned runs. Dunn also earned eight putouts on defense.
Troy followed that up with its only loss of the weekend, a 6-5 heartbreaker to Western Kentucky on Feb. 15. With Troy hanging on to a 5-4 lead going into the seventh inning, Western Kentucky rallied to score two runs in the seventh to earn the victory.
Boltz went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, while Taylor McKinney went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Natalie Turner scored two runs and stole a base.
Alyssa Faircloth pitched five innings and struck out six batters, while giving up seven hits and three earned runs. Dunn tallied seven putouts on defense.
On Sunday, Troy kicked off a doubleheader with a 10-2 win over Eastern Illinois. Dunn led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBIs and one run. McKinney went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. Annie Orman also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Savannah Money struck out six batters and gave up six hits and two earned runs in four and 2/3 innings in the circle. Dunn earned five putouts and a double play on defense.
Troy dominated Alabama State 14-0 to cap off the doubleheader on Sunday. Boltz went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a run, while Caiden Oliva went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs. Annie Orman also went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, a double and one run.
Mya Holt got the win in the circle, striking out one batter and giving up one hit and no runs in three innings pitched. Ally Fleck also struck out a pair of batters and gave up two hits and no runs in two innings of work. Oliva earned six putouts and a double play.
Troy is back at home this Wednesday, Feb. 19, for a showdown against the ACC’s Georgia Tech at 5 p.m. in a game that will stream on ESPN+.
