In keeping with this year’s theme of “Children are our future,” the Troy Friends of the Library have donated $25,000 to the Children’s Department of the Troy Public Library.

“This is to help the children’s librarian prepare for the upcoming Summer Reading Program and any other programs the library plans to offer the children of Pike County in the year 2025,” said Bonnie Sanders, Friends of the Library president. “Our Bookstore has been remodeled and we continue to receive generous book donations from residents. We are grateful for the support of Mayor Jason Reeves and Mr.  William White, Library director, for their support of the community.”

Friends will begin planning its 2025 April Membership Drive so, Iris Byrd, Book Store Manager, said Friends of the Library are encouraging all those in the community who realize the importance of the city’s public library to become members.”

Membership comes with a gift card that entitles members to a free $1 book each month. There are several memberships from which to choose.

“The Troy Friends of the Library is looking forward to rewarding every child in the Summer Reading Program, who reads a book, with a treat bag that will include a coupon for a free treat from a local business,” said Joyce Cooper, Friends of the Library treasurer. “Walnut Cookie Company and bSweet have partnered with us in the past and we greatly appreciate their support.”

Friends of the Library invites and encourages the community to visit the Book Store and, while there, check out the new bookshelves.

“We have so many books and other items to choose from. And We are currently looking for volunteers to work weekly shifts,” Cooper said. Please call us at 334-674-2023 if you are interested in becoming a volunteer.
