Brundidge Council approves pay raise

The Brundidge City Council met in regular session on Tuesday, February 4 at 6 p.m. at Brundidge City Hall.

Present for the meeting were council members Latisher Hall, District 2; Margaret Ross, District 3; and Byron Gaynor, District 4.

Absent were council members, Gerald Holland, District 1 and Marilyn Rogers, District 5.

Mayor Isabel Boyd called the meeting to order and followed with business before the council which included Ordinance No 2025.

Council Member Byron Gaynor moved that the Council agree to give unanimous consent to consider Ordinance No 2025 which would increase the salary of the mayor and council from $500 a month ($6,000 annually) to $550 a month $6,500) to be effective the first Monday in November 2025.

The council receives a $60 daily per diem for actual travel expense for the mayor and council when participating in official city business.

The motion to consider the ordinance today was seconded by Council Member Ross. Voting in favor of the motion were Mayor Boyd and council members Hall, Ross and Gaynor. 

Boyd’s request for a cellphone for the mayor was not approved.

“I don’t understand,” Boyd said. “The head of the street department, the electric department, the workers that cut the grass. I don’t understand why the mayor doesn’t need a cell phone.”

In other council action, Gaynor moved the council approve Resolution No. 2025-04 which allows the City of Brundidge to enter into an agreement with South Central Alabama Development Commission for the provision of administrative services of SEID Project Number SEID23AL001 and authorizes the mayor to execute the contract on behalf of the city. Council Member Hall seconded the motion and with all voting yes, the motion carried.  

Gaynor moved the council approve Resolution No. 2025-05 which allows the City of Brundidge to enter into an agreement with South Central Alabama Development Commission for the provision of administrative services of CDBG No. SM-CM-PF-24-011 and authorizes the Mayor to execute the contract on behalf of the City.  Hall seconded the motion and with all voting yea the motion carried.  

There being no further business, the council adjourned.

The Brundidge City Council meets at 6 p.m. the first and third Tuesdays of the month at Brundidge City Hall.  The meetings are open to the public.
