- Huck Treadwell The Pike County Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting at Home2Suites on Friday.
Home2Suites in Troy officially opened on Nov. 22, but held its official grand opening on Friday.
Alex Patel, a member of the hotel’s ownership, said Mint Hospitality owns Home2Suites as well as the Best Western in Troy. Patel said because they had done business in Troy for many years, they were aware the city would be an ideal location for a second hotel.
“Sami Shah, my father-in-law, had a dream to make sure Troy had a quality hotel,” Patel said. “I’m thankful I can be here today to see that dream came true.”
Troy Mayor Jason Reeves said Shah passed away not long after signing an agreement to purchase the lot in the Park Place Shopping Center.
“Sami Shah was a special, special man,” Reeves said. “He was a joy to work with. This hotel is truly a memorial to Sami Shah. This is a very proud and wonderful day.”
Patel said he wanted to thank his family and all of the people who worked to make Shah’s dream a reality.
Home2Suites manager Kim Waters said the hotel has 91-rooms, which are all suites, and are designed for guests who plan to have an extended stay. She said each suite has a kitchenette, sitting area, bedroom and bathroom. She said guests also have access to the front and back patios, the hotel’s swimming pool and barbeque grill. Patel said the hotel is also connected to a walking trail that extends to the nearby Troy Sportsplex.
Shah’s wife, Minal, said she wanted to thank her family for helping see the hotel through to completion.
“Welcome to Troy,” she said. “Welcome to Home2Suites. Please stay the night with us.”
