Pike Lib competes at Elba’s Pea River Christmas Classic

The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots and Lady Patriots basketball teams headed to Elba on Dec. 26 to compete in the Pea River Christmas Classic.
The Pike Lib girls faced off against host Elba in the opening night, falling by a score of 71-34 to the Lady Tigers. Elba jumped out to a 19-2 lead in the first quarter and led 31-9 at halftime. Elba was led by A’lyric Whitfield with an eye-popping 41 points, while Casidee Boone led PLAS with nine points. Shelly Stephens added seven points and Mary Holland Stephens scored six.
The Pike Lib boys picked up a 66-50 win over host Elba. After falling behind early, Pike managed to take 17-10 lead into the second quarter and led 34-21 at halftime. Pike held on to a 52-31 lead going into the final period. While Elba outscored Pike 19-14 in the final quarter it wasn’t enough to overtake the Patriots.
Both Jackson Mitchell and Chase DeBoer led PLAS with 15 points, while Sawyer Keck added 11 points and Dougie Branson scored 10. Elba was led by Javante Griggs with 17 points and Jay Wilson chipped in with 11 points.
