On Monday night, Troy Post 70 shutout Wilmington (DE) in the American Legion 19U World Series Semifinals to advance to the championship round.
After battling yet another rain delay, Post 70 managed to out hit Wilmington 6-2 in the win. Troy native Payne Jefcoat led the way for Troy, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, one RBI and two runs. Artion’s Caden Collier also went 1-for-2 with a run, while Evan Taylor scored the other Post 70 run.
On the defensive end, Brody Lindsey pitched a complete game, striking out five batters and giving up just two hits and earning the shutout on the mound. Jefcoat also had eight putouts to lead Troy’s defensive effort. Post 70 had just one error as a team. In fact, defense has been a strongpoint throughout the World Series as Post 70 has given up a total of six runs in four games, including two straight shutouts.
In the other semifinal matchup, Midland (Mich.) defeated League City (Texas) by a score of a 1-0. Troy will face Midland in the World Series Championship on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. on ESPNU.
