The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots closed out the 2020 regular season with a 35-18 win over Monroe Academy on Friday night.
The win for the Patriots gives them a 7-2 record heading into next week’s opening round of the state playoffs against the same Monroe Academy team.
Friday night’s win for the Patriots was their first-ever win against the Volunteers.
After both offenses were shut out in the first quarter, the Patriots went into halftime holding a slim 7-6 lead. The Patriots went into the fourth quarter leading 14-12. They outscored the Volunteers 21-6 in the final quarter to secure the win.
The Patriot offense finished the game with 334 total yards on Friday night, 192 of which came on the ground.
Kam Baker led the way with 161 yards on 13 carries and he had two touchdowns.
Quarterback Mayes White completed 14 of his 23 passes for 142 yards and he threw one touchdown. Jay Taylor finished with six catches for 82 yards and had one touchdown.
The Patriot defense held the Volunteers to 235 yards. Peyton Dicks led the Patriot defense with eight tackles, while Caleb Guice and Baker each had seven.
The Patriots will host the Volunteers in the opening round of the playoffs next Friday night beginning at 7 p.m.
