An owner of the Grocery Advantage store in Troy said Tuesday the location is not closing ¬ – at least at the moment.

“We’re still in a planning stage,” said Hank Carlstrom. “We don’t know if we’re going to change the format and do things a little differently, sell the location or close …

“But for the foreseeable future, we’re open.”

Carlstrom’s comments came as rumors of the store’s impending close continued to spread on social media and throughout the community in the wake of the closing of Troy Meat City (formerly Ingram’s Curb Market) in late November.

Carlstrom said the Troy location of Grocery Advantage opened in late November 2018 and is one of six locations in the Grocery Advantage group. Four are in Pensacola, Fla., and another is located in Enterprise. The Grocery Advantage store in Troy is located on South Brundidge Street and employs approximately 30 people, according to Carlstrom.

“We certainly haven’t had the success we would’ve liked (in Troy),” Carlstrom said. “But with the closing (of Troy Meat City) we don’t know what we’re going to do. We could still stay open, we could change the format, we could sell or we could hunker down and see if sales increase as we pick up business.”

Pike County is also served by three Piggly Wiggly locations, all owned by members of the Garrett family; Publix; and Walmart grocery stores.
