The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans began play in the in the Class 5A South Regional on Thursday morning in Gulf Shores.

The Trojans kicked off the day with a dominating 10-1 win over Citronelle. The Trojans followed up that win with an 8-2 loss to rival Rehobeth.

The Trojans sent Sydni Garrett to the circle in game one. Garrett pitched the game’s first two innings for the Trojans. Garrett didn’t allow a run or a hit in her outing. She walked two and struck out two.

Senior Molly Kate Sanders pitched the final five innings. She allowed one run on four hits. She struck out three batters and walked one.

The Trojans finished with 12 hits led by Kaitlyn Richardson who went 4-4 with three RBI.

The Trojans jumped out to a comfortable lead in the first inning after they tallied six runs on four hits. Emma Kirkpatrick had the first big hit of the contest when she hit an RBI double to put the Trojans up 1-0. Whittaka Lowery stole the second run of the game on a Citronelle error. Graci Williams and Ashlyn Shaver also picked up RBI in the inning.

The Trojans kept piling on the runs in the second when they scored two runs on a groundout by Williams and a Richardson single to increase their lead to 8-0.

Richardson picked up another RBI when she singled in the fourth.

After Citronelle scored their first and only run in the top of the sixth, the Trojans scored their final run on a Shaver single in the bottom half of the sixth.

Game 2

The Lady Trojans committed four errors in game two and fell to Rehobeth by five runs.

Garrett got the start again in game two. Garrett lasted five innings and surrendered eight runs, four of which were earned on nine hits and five walks. Molly Kate Sanders pitched the final two and surrendered two hits.

The Rebels scored two runs in both the first and second innings to jump on the Trojans 4-0. The Rebels put the game out of reach with a four-run fifth.

The Trojans got on the board with a run in the sixth when Sanders singled to left, driving in Rose Snyder. The Trojans attempted to mount a comeback in the seventh when they scored two more runs on a groundout by Kirkpatrick and a single by Garrett to cut their deficit to five at 8-3. That was as close as the Trojans would get. Garrett was called out on the bases to send the Trojans into the loser’s bracket.
