The Ariton Purple Cat’s run towards a state championship hit a wall on Friday afternoon after they were swept by St. Luke’s Episcopal in Mobile.

The Wildcats took game one 15-2 bore handling the Purple Cats in game two 14-2.

The Purple Cats end their season with a 23-11 record.

Things got off to a slow start for the Purple Cats. Ariton committed four errors and fell by 13 runs in five innings.

Maddux Herring got the start for the Purple Cats. Herring pitched just three innings while allowing 9 total runs, only three of which were earned on six hits and seven walks. Nash Evans pitched an inning of his own. He allowed six total runs, for of which were earned on four hits.

The Wildcats jumped on the Purple Cats for a tone of seven runs on two hits including a leadoff homerun in the first inning. Walks and errors hurt the Purple Cats in inning. Herring walked a total of four batters and hit another.

The Purple Cats attempted to inch their way back into the game in the fourth when they tallied two runs to cut their deficit to five at 7.

Both runs came on one swing when Herring singled to center to score both Carson Fain and Bryson Peavey.

The Wildcats erased any doubt in their half of the inning when they had eight runs touch home plate. The Wildcats picked up six hits in the inning.

The Purple Cats were outscored 29-4 in the first two games and like in game one walks played a factor. The Purple Cats waked a total of nine batters, bringing their two-game total to 18.

Gage Cumbie took the start in game two. Cumbie pitched three innings and allowed eight total runs on seven hits and six walks. Fain pitched the next two innings. He allowed four runs on two hits and three walks. Landon Thrash pitched the final inning and allowed two runs.

After the Wildcats scored the game’s first run in the top half of the first, the Purple Cats immediately responded with a run in the bottom of the first when Josh Sullivan walked with the bases loaded.

The Wildcats responded with three runs on two hits to retake the lead at 3-1. The Purple Cats inched closed with a run in the bottom of the second when Jeb Maund scored on a groundout by Fain to bring them to within one at 3-2.

The Wildcats picked up a three-run homerun in the fourth in what was a four-run fourth inning.

With the Wildcats already leading 8-2, Ariton surrendered six runs in the sixth inning to put them up 14-2.
