The Pike County Lady Bulldogs finished off their regular season by participating in the Elba Warm-up tournament this weekend.

The Bulldogs didn’t win the tournament, but head coach Fawn Sims was happy with the play of her players heading into the area tournament.

“If we pick up where we left off on Saturday we will be good to go,” Sims said. “ We played really well this weekend.”

The Bulldogs played Carroll, New Brockton and Elba as well as Montgomery Catholic.

The Bulldogs finished the regular season with a 4-22 record, but they finished in fourth place within Area 4. The Bulldogs shared the area along with regular season champions Providence Christian, Wicksburg, Houston Academy and Daleville High School.

The Bulldogs will match up with Daleville in round one of the tournament; a team that coach Sims believes her team can compete with.

“If we show up and hit the ball like we have been recently these last couple of games (we should be fine),” Sims said. “Like I said, we have been hitting a whole lot of hard balls straight to people lately. If we show up and play solid defense like we have the past couple of games than we should be just fine in game one.”

The Bulldogs will look to get big innings out of pitcher Senkethia Thompson beginning in game one against the Warhawks.

“She threw very well this past weekend,” Sims said. “I was very proud of her performance.”

The Bulldogs and Warhawks will square off beginning at 2 p.m. the winner will take on top-seeded Providence Christian at 6 p.m. The top two teams will move on to the regional tournament.
