Softballs were flying through the air during the Miracle League game at Troy University’s Riddle-Pace Field on Monday evening.

A total of three teams were represented on a beautiful night for baseball.

“It’s a wonderful night,” said Troy head coach Mark Smartt. “As a team and as a program we have gone to the Sportsplex here in Troy to be buddies for the Miracle League on their field. Several people were involved so we invited them to play here tonight.”

Monday marked the first time that a Miracle League game was played at Riddle-Pace Field.

“It was the first time that the Miracle League players get to play on our field,” Smartt said. “It’s one of the highlights of our year when we get to their field.”

The Braves, Angels and Cubs played ball on Monday. Each kid was announced to the crowd prior to the game. Each athlete was also designated a Troy Trojan buddy to play with at the plate and in the field. There was also a PA announced and a DJ on hand to help call all the action.

“A buddy is here to help the Miracle League players play the game,” Smartt said. “That could mean everything from clapping and cheering to actually helping them play the game. It’s very clear that the Miracle League players run the show. They are in charge and our players in years past have established a relationship with all these people. It’s a really good night for our guys to give back to the community a little bit, but it’s more to me than that.”
