PLAS sweeps Springwood

The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots swept Springwood in a Thursday double-header in Troy.

The Lady Patriots stole game one in walk-off fashion 5-4, before winning handily in game two 9-1.

The Patriots entered the bottom of the seventh inning of game one trailing 4-2. With the bases loaded, Grace Rushing smacked a two-run single to tie the game at 4. That set the stage for Sarah Elizabeth Calhoun to end the game with a walk-off single.

The Patriots scored in every inning of game two on their way to a comfortable eight-run win.

Dannah Dawson got the start for the Patriots and pitched the first inning. Morgan Bundy pitched the rest of the way, earning herself the win.

The Patriots fell behind early 1-0, but in the bottom of the first they tallied four runs on four singles by Katelyn Dendy, Dawson, Ashelyn Atwell and Reagan Brown. The Patriots were also aided by a walk and two errors.

The Patriots added two more runs in the second on a Haleigh Dewberry double and a Rushing single to go up 6-1.

Brown picked up her second RBI of the game in the third when she tripled to drive in Atwell.

The Patriots scored their final two runs in the fourth inning. Dendy doubled in Dewberry and Adams hit a sacrifice fly to left to drive in Dendy to give the Patriots a 9-1 lead.
