Contrary to what some people obviously think, “Our Earth Is Not Your Garbage Can.”

That will be the topic of the Brown Bag event at the Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library in Brundidge on Thursday.

Mike Mullen with the Alabama Water Watch will be the program guest at the noon meeting.  All who are concerned about the “trashing of Mother Earth” are encouraged to bring a lunch and enjoy the program.

Theresa Trawick, library director, said Mullen has been involved in environmental advocacy since the early 1980s. He currently monitors the Choctawhatchee River basin.

“In the early 1980s, Mike Mullen was active in the Sierra Club working on wilderness expansion and on hazardous waste issues,” Trawick said.

Mullen’s program will focus on the growing amount of solid waste that is generated globally, what is being done with the garbage and how the world will tackle the growing problem in the future.

Trawick said Mullen has the education, training and experience to offer ideas for solutions to the “trashing of Mother Earth.”

While under contract with the Alabama Department of Environmental Management doing polluted runoff education work, Mullen and others worked to promote volunteer citizen monitoring.

Mullen was a founding member of the American Water Works Association, a scientific and educational association founded to improved water quality and supply.
