Charles Henderson Junior Maori Davenport and the Trojans took home the state championship in March where she was named Tournament MVP. A few weeks later she was named the Class 5A Girls Player of the Year.

The accomplishments kept coming Wednesday when she was selected to participate in the 2018 U18 (under 18) National Team Trials at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado from May 25-29.

“I am just excited,” Davenport said. “This is one of my dreams.”

Davenport has over a month to get ready for the trials and in that time she is going to get to work.

“Workouts in the morning and workouts in the evening,” Davenport said. “I am not really sure what they are going to put me through, but I feel like if I just work on basketball period then I will have more confidence.”

Twelve players will be selected from the trials to compete on the team that will play in the 2018 FIBA Americas U18 Championship. This competition will be a qualifying tournament for the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup. 

With all the accomplishments coming her way over the last month, Davenport feels blessed.

“My life is full of blessings,” Davenport said. “I had a few dreams, I just have to make sure I accomplish them and set more so I can have more dreams to make.”

Davenport will use these trials to work with people very knowledgeable and skilled in the game of basketball.

“I think it will make me a better player because I am pretty sure I am going to be around some hall-of-famers and good coaches,” Davenport said.
