Gideon Brockett makes every day an adventure

For Gideon Brockett, every day is an adventure.

When “the dart” fell near Spring Hill Sunday afternoon, he was out on one of his adventures, on his way back from his daily walk to Ward’s Grocery.

“Everybody travelling meets right there,” Brockett said. “From Enterprise to Troy. It just energizes me.”

Brocket has clearly made the trek many times before. He is prepared for the hike, carrying some belongings in a duffle bag while he holds his special walking stick with the other. And, of course, a yellow vest to ensure he is clearly visible to those travellers zooming up and down Alabama Highway 87.

Brockett said he enjoys his daily journey in part because it is environmentally conscious, but his real love is for the people there and the surprises along the way.

“Like you pulled up and started talking to me,” Brockett said, a big smile cracking across his face. “You just never know what’s going to happen.”

Editor’s note: The Dart is a weekly feature of the Troy Messenger. Each week, a reporter throws a dart at a map of Pike County and then features someone in that area.
