This April, county officials are asking local residents to join them in an effort to clean up the county’s roadways.

The commission and road department are teaming up with People Against a Littered State (PALS) to declare April 21-28 “Don’t Drop it on Alabama” week in Pike County.

“The commission is all about doing something about the litter problem,” said Russell Oliver, county engineer.

Private groups, corporations, schools, churches, clubs, or individuals in Pike County may participate with clearing the County right-of-way of litter.

“This is a great way to beautify the areas adjacent to your home, churches or business,” said Rene’ Green, office manager at the road department. “Urge other like groups to participate and create a healthy and fun challenge”.

PALS will provide trash bags for the groups and the road department will provide a place to drop off the trash collected.

Officials are urging groups that want to participate in the beautification of the roadways to go ahead and begin organizing teams.

County residents can pick up bags at the road department located at 301 Riverview Drive in Troy.
