Area wrap up: Lady Trojans and Lady Patriots come out on top, Eagles come up short

The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans claimed a key area win on Thursday night when they knocked off Brew Tech 10-0 in Montgomery.

The Trojans scored four runs in both the first and second innings to point them in the right direction.

The win for the Trojans gives them a 3-0 area record on the season.

Sydni Garrett got the start for the Trojans and pitched all six innings in the win. She allowed just three hits and walked five batters.

Emma Kirkpatrick had three of the Trojans eight hits. She went 3-4 on the night, while Molly Kate Sanders went 2-4 with three RBI. The Trojans also had hits by Garrett, Gracie Williams and Ashlyn Shaver.

The Trojans picked up two bases loaded walks and a two-run single by Sanders to quickly go up 4-0.

The Trojans doubled their lead in the second inning and went up 8-0 when Garrett was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Williams smacked a two-run single to center and Kaitlyn Richardson scored on a sacrifice fly.

The Trojans closed out their scoring with single runs in both the fifth and sixth innings on a Shaver a triple and a bases-loaded walk by Williams.

The Trojans will be back in action this weekend when they take part in the Enterprise Tournament. They will close out area play on Monday when they host Brew Tech. A Trojan win would clinch the regular season area championship for the Trojans for the second consecutive season.

Fort Dale 1 Lady Patriots 11

The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots picked up win number 15 on the year when they knocked off rival Fort Dale 11-1 on Thursday evening in Troy.

Morgan Bundy got the start for the Patriots and threw all six innings in the win. Bundy allowed five hits and two walks. She struck out three batters.

The Patriots finished with 14 hits on the night led by Haleigh Dewberry who went 3-3 with three runs scored. Bundy, Maggie Phelps, Mallory Clifton and Sara Elizabeth Calhoun all picked up two hits for the Patriots.

Phelps picked up a team-high four RBI, while Grace Rushing had two and Bundy and Calhoun each had one a piece.

Luverne 6 Goshen 3

The Goshen Eagles were swept in a big area double-header on Thursday night against the Luverne Tigers.

The sweep clinched the regular season championship for the Tigers, moving the Eagles down to second place for the second consecutive year.

“We talked about it all week,” said Eagle head coach Robby Kinsaul. “We knew the importance of the game. I told them to leave it all on the field. It’s a bad feeling, but we left everything on the field and the guys played really well. I am proud of them.”

Dalton Bunce pitched six innings in game one and tallied nine strikeouts.

Corey Peterson pitched into the sixth inning before giving way to Brock Snyder.

The Eagles led in the seventh inning of game two 10-9 before the Tigers stormed back to win by one.

The Eagles will be back in action on  Tuesday when they travel to take on Samson.
