Mildred Margene Senn Hanchey, 89, died on Sunday, April 1, 2018, in Pensacola, Fla.  Margene was born on July 18, 1928, in Troy, Ala. to the late Hume “Dude” Senn and Eula Mae Price Senn.  Margene was also preceded in death by her husband, Sam Carroll Hanchey, Jr. and both of her sons, Karl Senn Hanchey and Sam Carroll Hanchey, III.

She graduated from Troy High School as valedictorian of her class and then married Carroll in 1947 at the First Methodist Church in Troy.  They moved to Tallahassee, Fla. in the early 1950s and eventually built their dream house in 1963, which became their home for almost 50 years.  She was a devoted wife and mother who was a wonderful cook and welcoming hostess.  She worked as a switchboard operator for Tallahassee Community College for many years until she retired.  She always had a smile and encouraging words for those around her and had a strong spirit and faith that helped her through many dark times.  She loved to draw, sew, solve puzzles, and garden.  She remained, at heart, a farm girl who loved being outside and she came home to Troy as often as possible to visit with family. The graveside service will be held Friday, April 6, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. at Green Hills Cemetery in Troy, Ala.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 12:30 p.m. at Green Hill Funeral Home .                                                                                                                                                                                        Survivors include her daughter, Gina Bembry; her husband, Gary, of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; brother, Irving Senn and his wife, Suzy, of Troy; grandchildren Ethan Bembry, Tasha Odum, and Cameron Hanchey; great-grandchildren Kori, Rhett, Mason, Brooke, Kaleb, and Kayte Odum; Jacob and Parker Liles; and Olivia and Mila Hanchey.
