Lady Patriots begin Jonah McWaters Tournament 2-0

The Pike Lady Patriots received a stellar pitching performance from Dannah Dawson in their 5-0 win over Crenshaw County on day one of the Jonah McWaters Tournament on Friday afternoon.

Dawson pitched all six innings of the timed contest. She allowed just two hits and struck out six batters, striking out the side in the first.

The Patriots finished with six hits, led by Haleigh Dewberry and Morgan Bundy, who each picked up two hits. Maggie Phelps and Dawson each had one.

The Patriots scored their first two runs in the first at-bat on Friday afternoon. Dewberry shot a single to left field, scoring Bundy for the game’s first run. The ball shot past the left fielder, enabling Dewberry to race to third base. She came around to score on a double by Phelps to bring the score to 2-0.

The Patriots scored their final three runs in the second inning. Dawson led off the inning with a double. Ally Rushing came in to pinch run and came in to score on a wild pitch for the inning’s first run.

The Patriots picked up RBI singles by both Bundy and Dewberry to stretch their lead to 5-0.

Dawson led up just one hit over the final three innings to help preserve the 5-0 win.

The Patriots ended day one of tournament undefeated after they defeated Abbeville 5-2. They will be back in action today at 10 a.m. when they take on Coosa Valley. They will conclude play at 11:30 a.m. against Monroe.
