A familiar face was seen around town on Monday afternoon in former University of Mississippi head football coach Hugh Freeze.

Freeze and Troy head football coach Neal Brown were seen inside Trojan Center on Monday afternoon and were seen later again at the Half Shell restaurant on Monday night, leaving people to speculate the reason behind the coach’s arrival.

According the athletic department, Freeze was not in town for an interview, but to simply exchange stories and ideas.

“This is a common practice across many sports with coaches exchanging ideas in the offseason,” said Assistant Director of Athletics and Communications Adam Prendergast. “We have coaches that go to other Universities to talk with their staffs.”

Troy currently has no open coaching positions.

Brown has also reportedly met with coaches from Samford along with a few high school coaches so far this offseason.

Freeze coached the Rebels from 2012 until 2016. Freeze compiled a 39-25 record in his five years with the Rebels.

Coach Brown could not be reached for comment.
