Barron leads the Patriots to 6-0 start

The Pike Patriots pulled out a slim 3-2 victory over Lee Scott Academy on Thursday in Auburn.

The win keeps the Patriots undefeated on the season at 6-0.

There were a combined 12 hits between the two teams.

Clay Barron got the start for the Patriots. Barron completed 5.1 innings, earning himself the win on Thursday. Barron surrendered two runs and four hits, while striking out five batters.

Drew Nelson pitched the remainder of the ball game without surrendering a run and giving up just one hit, while striking out two.

The Patriots finished with 7 hits led by Nathan Renfroe, who went 2-4. Cole McWhorter finished 1-3 with 2 RBIs Wood Jinright, Max Copeland, Davis Allen and Cason Murphree also had a hit.

The Patriots spread out their three runs over three different innings. Their first run came in the second inning when Jade Sikes came around to score on an Allen groundout.

The Patriots’ second run came in to score in the third when Renfroe scored on a sacrifice fly to center by McWhorter. The Patriots’ final run, one that would prove to be the winning run, came in the fifth inning when McWhorter singled to center, driving in Jinright to put the Patriots up 3-0.

The Warriors scored both their runs in the sixth, beginning with a solo homerun. Nelson came and shut the door from there, preserving the win.

The Patriots will be back in action this afternoon to take on Northside in their first area matchup of the season.
