A man accused of kidnapping a man at knifepoint Tuesday has been arrested according to Sheriff Russell Thomas.

Thomas said U.S. Marshals located Timothy Latty, 42, and began surveilling him before arresting him at approximately 2 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of a Bass Pro Shops in Leeds.

Latty is suspected of kidnapping a Geneva man, Joseph Craig Chancellor, in Pike County after a dispute between the two just short of the Pike County line.

Thomas said Chancellor was driving Latty to Birmingham at approximately 3:30 a.m. Tuesday when Chancellor pulled to the side of the road and told Latty that he could find another ride to finish a trip to Birmingham. At that point, Thomas said, Latty assaulted Chancellor and pulled a knife on him, forcing him into the passenger seat while Latty drove to Birmingham.

Upon arrival, Latty reportedly left the vehicle and Chancellor was able to drive to a nearby convenience store to ask for help.

Latty has been charged with kidnapping and first-degree robbery, both Class A Felonies, as well as third-degree assault. Thomas said Latty is being held in Jefferson County for now on prior warrants.

“Once they’re through with him, he’ll be transferred back here to face his charges,” Thomas said.
