The Walter J. Henderson Foundation, a non-profit organization, was founded by Maceo Henderson, a 2001 graduate of Charles Henderson High School for the purpose of providing educational and cultural activities and events for young people and inspiring them to set goals and objectives that will benefit them personally and also their communities.

On Saturday, the Walter J. Henderson Foundation, with the support of local business and industries, will offer a free private screening of the movie “Black Panther” at 9:30 a.m. at  Continental Cinemas in Troy for local youth.

“Black Panther” is a 2018 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics’ character of the same name.

“‘Black Panther’ is said to be Marvel’s first genuine masterpiece,” Maceo Henderson said. “Through the Walter J. Foundation, we want to offer the young people in the Troy area the opportunity to see this movie.

The community has been very supportive of the private free showing by providing sponsorships for children, which are $12 per child.

“We’ll have two theaters for this private screening and parents may accompany their children but will be responsible for their tickets, which are $12 each and include the ‘Black Panther’ movie, a 16-ounce beverage and a small popcorn.”

As a senior engineer with an international firm, Henderson has travel throughout the world and knows and understands the importance of being exposed to different places and different cultures.

“The Walter J. Henderson Foundation has as a goal providing children with opportunities they may not have otherwise, especially in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math,” he said.

Movies, like ‘Black Panther,’ expose children to the technology of movie making and to different cultures in addition to providing them with the opportunity to visit a movie theater and have the thrill of seeing a blockbuster movie.
