Patriots fall 56-40 in Region 2 championship game

The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots fell to Morgan Academy 56-40 in the Region 2 basketball tournament on Saturday in Greenville.

Even with the loss, the Patriots will head to the Elite Eight, where they will take on Lee-Scott on February 1.

The Patriots jumped out to an early lead at 14-6 after picking up 6 points from Javon Christian, but ended the half with just 18 total points with only 4 scored in the second quarter. The game went to halftime tied at 18. The Senators outscored the Trojans 38-13 in the second half, scoring 27 points in the fourth quarter to cruise to the 14-point win.

Wood Jinright and Ethan Green led the way for the Patriots by scoring 8 points, while Cody Hollis, Jade Sikes Javon Christian each had 7.

Sikes was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Patriots and Warriors will begin play at 10:30 a.m. on February 1 at the Montgomery Multiplex.
